Anyone who declares that he wants my death and destruction; whether they're on the other side of the globe, or in the next
city block; is my enemy. There are places you don't wander into, if you don't know that, you won't live long; and to pretend
otherwise is absolutely foolish. An enemy may not know me personally, but if I'm lumped into a catagory he hates, the
outcome to me will be the same. Do you think the 'death to Americans' chant is a mild political slogan like "I like Ike"?
Are they little children to be dismissed with a 'tsk, tsk, there, there' and ignored, hoping they'll grow up? Do they
have reason to hate? Who doesn't? What peoples haven't migrated, forcing others to move, or been forced themselves? All through
history, tides of people have swept this way and that, and we are stuck with the muddied result.
Mutually exclusive
world views cannot co-exist, except on the most vapid NewAgeWeenie level. (If your world view is that capable of compromise,
you've built a house of cards on sand.)
Technology has us all crammed together, just like back in prehistory when
war was invented. No more open frontiers to bleed the pressure anymore. No surprise there will be war; there's bound to be
a steady drumbeat of war. There is no way we ourselves can come to grips with that part of our nature that leads to war. And
all the wishful positive sweet thoughts will no more make peace, than wishful positive sweet thoughts will make my flapping
arms fly.
Sadly, individuals may be moved, but the mass of Humanity remain mired. For every inch Man moves forward, new rents open
in His society. Advances in understanding are countered by depths of brutality. We cheer increased civil rights here,
but whites are being hunted down in Africa. We laud our medically assisted longitivity, while infantcide is pandemic. Crimes
that were unthinkable when I was a child, are commonplace enough to be woven into sitcoms. The reason we even have this
discussion is because we all feel the unease of things not being right. The tension in the world desires a breaking point,
just to get the suspense of impending doom over with. I know this sounds darkly negative, but realistic assessment paints
the world with constant cries of ---that's not fair---if I could only get a break---it could all dissapear overnight--it wasn't
my fault---and on and on. If I felt that was all there was to life, I'd be despondent or angry. But getting on with doing
what you do, and becoming what you want to become, irreguardless if you actually get there or not, is the business of life.
If you influence for good; then swell. If you rescue another from despair; good job. But for every world saving effort, there
will be parts of the world being torn down around you. We live in an entropic world, this gives no promise of hope. Our
joys and hopes must lie outside this world system, and it's futile to pin them on fixing what can't be fixed. That's not
to say we give up, but fairy tale dreams of some psychic grope of grouped wishful thlinking is vain; and if you did have something
valid to contribute, it'll be buried under frills of silliness. Alexander the Great at age 15 didn't mobilize his country,
and the world, and get them all to listen and to follow, by spouting anything that didn't make good common sense.
I'm getting the flavor of "white mans' burden" in a couple of
posts; why beat about the bush....the debate of who has the right to straighten out the world's messes sounds like "power
begins at the barrel of the...
Count the cost. Perhaps the Chinese would be best to oversee the smooth operation
of the world.
where's it going?
...it's like I'm sitting at a large table in a dark smoke-filled room with
several powerful figures seated around. And I'm tied to my chair, so someone next to me is playing my pieces.
It's a game of Risk; and the pieces are poised to make that "big expansion".
I can see he's going to fail, and be completely broken.
Everyone around the board wants to make that move, and control the board;
but know the first one out is the most likely to get eaten to the bone; so they wait, and they egg this guy on, and I can't
get him to stay his/my hand...
It's like a cultural compulsion to make the global empire, the Holy Grail
of econopolitics
Well...there's this evil empire once; it was brought down with BigMacs,
blue jeans, rock&roll, and Cola... (Oh, wait, was that this empire???)
None the less, it would be hard to have a feud with someone who has
shared the fruit of the sweat of his labor with you. So let's just share with them.
But there are sooooo many PolPots and IdiotAmins, who get willing
sheep to be their hands and feet. Keep chopping down the tyrants, but the sheep are a sleeper virus, ready to go.
What about them? Most desire no more enlightenment than the tv guide
gives them.
I've heard arguments that education is the key, but I know people
who live all around me who say they never watch the news because it upsets them. And books...."I had a book once. Lessee,
where did that doorstopper get off to?"... So what do you say to the average foaming-at-the-mouth, brainwashed-from-birth,
militant, on the streetcorner in NKorea?
Scratch the surface of most Asian cultures, and amid all the clutter
of 1000 year plans, you'll find a mythology of their culture on top, ruling and eliminating all others. Skip to the next continent,
and you'll get variations on the same theme.
Look, I know they all watch the same cartoon shows...don't they know
the evil dictator never wins???
If these buffoons were just ignored or shot when they first started
winding up; and that cured the problem.....then all we need are a couple Remos to sanitize (sainitize?) the crazies. But then
what about the JimJones' who started out by some serious communist sharing, and ended up shouting "only look at me".
At what point do you eliminate the nuts? And who judges...(..am I
the only one who smells Orwell in here? I keep smelling....tell me if you can smell that....it comes and goes...)...the criteria
for what's over the line (before it gathers up its momentum and sheep)?
If we just kept everybody smilin on JiffyPop and full bellies, and
good sitcom, and really great aspirin, and cheap beer, an, an, an, ....
Would that be enough, or are there enough out there who just love
the black boots, and that thin little black belt thingie that goes so smartly across the chest...and don't forget epilettes...an,
an, an, ....medals, lots of medals...
Some peoples jest plain like playing Massah & Slave.
Is simple rationalism the answer? I mean, look at all the ammo lying
around, if words could cure.
Maybe we're looking at this wrong...maybe we should be super Dorsai...
