Abram

FWIW the original biblical story of Abram --
Abram knew either he wouldn´t have to go through the sacrifice, or more likely, that God would resurrect his son.
Why? Because he told his servants they both would return. And more importantly because God told him that his descendants would be like the sands of the sea. So he knew somehow his son would live.
The idea was trust and faith.
If he didn´t believe the promise, he certainly wouldn´t have had the belief to offer his son.
His trust was that even in the face of mutually exclusive outcomes, God was in charge enough to resolve whatever apparent dilemma there was.

We are all the children of Abram and the inheritors of the Promise, if we too exercise his faith and trust.
As Abram was willing to sacrifice his only son just to obey the will of God; so God was willing to sacrifice His only Son, because we believed (thank you Abraham) it helped set the pattern that was revealed in the Redemption.

Human sacrifice?

Yes, when I think of the Inca-tear-the-heart-out-bleeding appease the demons so they´ll leave us alone...I agree.

But the penalty of separation from existence is death. Not so much a penalty, although it is, but a logical conclusion to being non-existent.
Since God is Holy (which means Separate), He is separate from that which is sin, or evil, or lowdown nasty badness. God is the Source and dispenser of existence, so to be separate from Him, is to be very much dead. (It just may take a bit to catch up to you)
Sin = death.
But if you could substitute the one deserving the penalty, for one willing to take the penalty...then you have the pattern of blood sacrifice.
Why blood and gore and icky death? To get across the point of the seriousness of being separated and the outcome of it. A symbol and a representation.
The logical outcome of our rebellion has to be balanced, that´s justice. That´s just logical progression that can only be overcome by an overwhelming balance in the other direction by a complete and thorough death for restoration.
We can accept a perfect substitute, that being the only thing that is Perfect, which is God, and being both God and Man, fulfills the balance by being infinitely perfect and infinitely big enough to cover all who want Him as a substitute.
So, no, human sacrifice in the sense you mean is abhorrent. But for me to give up my life to save another is not. What you mean by human sacrifice is senseless gratuitous violence with no point at all to it.

***sin by definition is "missing the mark"
and this equates death?
get real.***

sorry, was taking shortcuts...your definition is correct. The mark you´re aiming for is the perfect will of God. And by extension, anything outside the will of God is not of God, and anything not of God falls into the category of evil by default.
(Since everything of God falls into the category of good). So if you are outside of God, you, in effect, are dead. The only way to be truly alive, is to be born again. Once born is born into death, your sinful nature, in rebellion and separate from God. The second birth, is being implanted with the Spirit of God, an act of will just like Abraham.

***and what of this separation from GOD, do you really think you could exist apart from this creative force? GOD has poured itself into everything!***

That aspect of God that sustains is in everything, but the intimate full sensurround involvement is missing. This is what both He and we wish for. But Justice demands that conditions be fulfilled. Or it would be a universe ruled by whim.
But wait until He withdraws His sustaining...

***AND NO GOD THAT I COULD FULLY WORSHIP WOULD ASK ME TO KILL MY DAUGHTER! it goes against the grain of everything i believe God to be.***

That´s fairly true...but many parents were asked to sacrifice their children in many, many wars. I know most wars were for ignoble gains, but some were for self-preservation and combating evil. We send our children to college for some careers (say disease research) that are potentially very hazardous; but expecting their sacrifice worth the gain in human safety that it buys. It´s just a matter of degree.
And one event, used as a pattern for an Example, is not synonymous with ´let´s all pitch our children in a pit´. You are painting with too broad a brush to get to a conclusion so you can reject All if you can find one point to throw out.

***and quite frankly. if you knew your bible, you would see that your god is jealous and vengeful. even says so himself.
i was taught to believe that those are qualities that are possessed by satan alone.***

And if you looked closely, you´d see how that jealousy was applied and for what reason...if you had something precious, and it was being trampled, you would be jealous to protect it. Jealousy stripped of its human anger and coveting and envy, means an intense passionate exclusive caring for something. And vengeance is the delivery of justice to the despoilers of innocence and victimizers of the helpless.

***The problem with this substitution is that we would become non-accountable for our sins. Non-accountability is a BAD thing. For mankind to progress, . A sacrifice totally bypasses the necessary steps for improvement.***

This is what makes the difference between repentance, and being sorry and feeling a little guilty. That´s why you see so-called christians confessing their sins in the evening and bayoneting babies in the morning. True repentance is being accountable, and feeling that responsibility; and to cut & paste most of your paragraph: "we need to acknowledge our sins, be accountable for our sins, and take actions to remedy our shortcomings" is exactly what´s required in confessing and asking for forgiveness.
Repentance means literally to turn 180degrees, and face the opposite direction. You align yourself and your priorities, your desires, your thoughts, everything towards God and away from self-worship. (sin usually boils down to doing for yourself).
But humans are weak. The sacrifice is what we could never accomplish ourselves.

But it´s not to be used as a justification for any kind of lawless behavior. That just shows there was no repentance...how could it, you´re still facing the same direction...

***i know, as GOD has broke out of every box i have ever built.
the bible, of which you seem to derive your beliefs nolo, is but one limited version of reality! it is funny that such an intelligent man as yourself cant see the simplicity in that.***

I´m sorry too...I guess.
I´m sorry it´s too limited for you. But I think what is the limiting factor is the Foundation. I think both our cosmologies can expand quite far...
But I´m satisfied with my Foundation, and I have only scratched the surface of What´s Out There...

***more people are connected to GOD"S love than you might suppose***

Ah, now you´re painting me with the ´my way or the highway´ crowd...

I get my act together as best I can; I expect others to do the same...and where they all stand when all is said and done, is between them and whatever poobah or not they believe/not-believe in.

I figure the bottom line will be found out when we find out, some may be more surprised than others; but I´m guessing it´ll be a BIG jolt to everyone...
