"There is no way to describe what a warrior should do other than
that he should adhere to the Way of the warrior....By the Way of the warrior is meant death. The Way of the warrior is death.
This means choosing death whenever there is a choice between life and death. It means nothing more than this. It means to
see things through, being resolved....If you keep your spirit correct from morning to night, accustomed to the idea of death
and resolved on death, and consider yourself a a dead body, thus becoming one with the Way of the warrior, you can pass through
life with no possibility of failure and perform your office properly....So when you embark upon something, before you start,
fix your intention on the Four Oaths and put selfishness behind you. Then you cannot fail....The Four Oaths: Never be late
with respect to the Way of the warrior. Be useful to your lord. Be respectful to your parents. Get beyond love and grief;
exist for the good of man."
--Yamamoto Tsunenori
"It is said the warrior's is the twofold Way of pen and sword
in accord, and he should have a taste for both Ways. Generally speaking, the Way of the warrior is resolute acceptance of
death."
1. Do not think dishonestly.
2. The Way is in training.
3. Become aquainted with every art.
4. Know the Ways of all professions.
5. Distinguish between gain and loss in worldly matters.
6. Develop intuitive judgement and understanding for everything.
7. Perceive those things which cannot be seen.
8. Pay attention even to trifles.
9. Do nothing which is of no use.

So if, through your faith in Christ, you are dead to the principles
of this world's life, why as if you were still part and parcel of this world-wide system, do you take the slightest notice
of these purely human prohibitions--"Don't touch this," "Don't taste that" and "Don't handle the other"? "This," "that" and
"the other" will all pass away after use! I know that these regulations look wise with their self-inspired efforts at worship,
their policy of self-humbling, and their studied neglect of the body. But in actual practice they do honor, not to God, but
to man's own pride.
....In so far, then, as you have to live upon this earth, consider
yourselves dead to worldly contacts....
Paul: Colossae
As a Christian I 'may' do anything, but that does not mean that
everything is good for me to do. I may do everything, but I must not be the slave of anything.
Paul: Corinth
Let us never forget that our old selves died with him on the cross
that the tryranny of sin over us might be broken---for a dead man can safely be said to be immune to the power of sin. And
if we were dead men with him we can believe that we shall also be men newly alive with him. We can be sure that the risen
Christ never dies again---death's power to touch him is finished. He died, because of sin, once: he lives for God for ever.
In the same way look upon yourselves as dead to the appeal and power of sin but alive and sensitive to the call of God through
Jesus Christ our Lord.
....But like men rescued from certain death, put yourselves in
God's hands as weapons of good for his own purposes...
Paul: Rome
Put on God's complete armor so that you can successfully resist
all the devil's methods of attack. For our fight is not against any physical enemy: it is against organizations and powers
that are spiritual. We are up against the unseen power that controls this dark world, and spiritual agents from the very headquarters
of evil. Therefore you must wear the whole armor of God that you may be able to resist evil in its day of power, and that
even when you have fought to a standstill you may still stand your ground,.
Paul: Ephesus
